All about usThe people, the businesses, the inspiration and the dream
What is Made in Plymouth CIC?
It is a joint venture between RIO, Plymouth College of Art, the University of Plymouth, and Plymouth City Council, working together to create a social enterprise souvenir line that celebrates and supports local artists and makers.
What is the idea behind Made in Plymouth?
To create a truly unique and beautiful range of locally designed, produced and retailed souvenirs to showcase the incredible artists and makers that call Plymouth home, so rather than buying mass-produced tourist items, visitors to Plymouth will be able to buy utterly authentic souvenirs crafted by some of the city’s most talented artists and makers, taking a real piece of Plymouth home from their visit.
Is this kind of thing being done elsewhere?
Yes! In London there is a brilliant project called We Built This City which does for London exactly what we’re hoping to create in Plymouth. We have great links with them and their founder Alice Mayor came and spoke at one of our early events.
How will Made in Plymouth CIC be funded?
Made in Plymouth has received initial support from Plymouth City Council through its Social Enterprise Investment Fund. Once operational, commission from selling souvenir products will fund the ongoing management of the project, along with a huge amount of time and expertise invested from the partners.
How can I get involved?
If you’re an artist or maker you can submit work to be considered for the souvenir range – check out the Info for Makers section for more details.
If you’re a potential partner, manufacturer or stockist and want more information on being involved once we have sourced artwork please contact Laura Wasley at Plymouth College of Art by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
